Don Brandt has worked for Trane for 39 years (4 part time) of the 46 years he has been involved in the HVAC industry. He has held the positions of Sales Engineer, Sales Manager, Trainer, Facility Manager and Controls Project Manager/Engineer. During his tenure with Trane, he worked in the Wilkes-Barre-Allentown, PA and Phoenix, AZ Sales Offices. I retired from Trane on Aug 1, 2013.
Don is an ASHRAE and IEEE Life Member and also teaches a CEM-AEE Prep Course, in addition to being a CEM. At ASHRAE, he has served at the Chapter, Regional and Society Levels, including DRC for Region X from 2002-2005, Standards Committee from 2005 -2009 and Nominating Committee 2010-2016. He is currently nominee for first year Society Vice President. He has also served on two Presidential Ad Hoc Committees in the past two years. He received the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in 2005 and the Exceptional Service Award in 2015. He is current on the Society Board of Directors (2017 – 2020) and was Chair of the Society Rules Committee (2018) at ASHRAE. He is also an instructor for the ASHRAE “HVAC Essentials” both in the US and internationally. He is the author of the new “Fundamentals of Psychrometrics, 2nd edition” both IP and SI, that are part of the ASHRAE SDL series of courses published in Jan and Aug of 2016 respectively.
In April of 2018, he was part of the UNEP Training in Beijing, China for 36 developing countries on the transition of refrigerants away from R-22.
He is a June of 1974 Graduate of Penn State with a B S in Electrical Engineering. He started his involvement in ASHRAE as a Lehigh Valley Chapter Member in 1975 and was a Charter Member of the Anthracite Chapter in 1979. He is currently a member of the Central Arizona Chapter.
Certifications: Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Program, Universal, EPA approved 1996; Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the Assoc of Energy Engineers, 1999; Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) from ASHRAE, 2016; E I T State of PA, 1974.
Instructor Experience: Trane Air Conditioning Clinic Series on HVAC Fundamentals- 4 day, 1975 to present; Trane Fundamentals of Electricity- 3day, 2006 to 2013; Trane Chilled Water Plant and Chiller Seminar-2 or 3 day, 2003 to 2013; CEM prep course for AZ AEE Chapter – 3 hrs, 2000 to present; Apprentice Training for HVAC Technicians – 3 week, UA 469, 2014 – 2015; ASHRAE HVAC Essentials Course – 1 week, 2013 to present; Arkansas AEE Chapter, Various Seminars – 1 day, 2013 to present; UNEP K-CEP Transition Class for Article 5 Counties, Beijing, China, April 2018; APPA U instructor in Wash, D C Sept of 2018 plus two additional classes in 2019; and Emprise- U S Navy-Military Sea Lift Command, Norfolk, VA July 2018. ASHRAE – NavFac training in the first Qtr of 2020.
